AFS Launches Additive Manufacturing Division
Jason D. Bush  |  January 1, 2018

A new Additive Manufacturing Division is now part of metalcasting innovation at the American Foundry Society.

The AFS Board of Directors voted to elevate the Ad Hoc Additive Manufacturing Committee into a permanent division on Nov. 29. AFS recognizes the importance of representing the fast-growing processes of additive manufacturing.

“Without all the hard work and dedication of industry leaders, we never would’ve had such amazing success with our meetings, conferences, and panels at the Metalcasting Congress,” said Brandon Lamoncha, (Humtown Products). “Additive manufacturing is here to stay, and we will help empower the metalcasting industry with this amazing technology!” Lamoncha will be the first chair of the new committee.

Additive manufacturing is revolutionizing how products are conceptualized, developed, and realized. The metalcasting industry uses 3-D printing technology to shorten lead-times, reduce inventory, cut development costs, streamline logistics and advance part design for OEMs.

The division will be made up of three committees. They are:

• 3-D Sand Printing, chaired by:
Jiten Shah (Product Dev.elopment & Analysis LLC)
• 3-D Printed Hard Tooling, chaired by:
         Marshall Miller (Flowserve)
• 3-D Printed Investment Cast Tooling, chaired by:
Tom Mueller (Mueller Additive Manufacturing Solutions)

The staff liaison to the Additive Manufacturing Division is:
Steve Robison, AFS Senior Technical Director.

“AFS is committed to driving innovation,” said AFS CEO Doug Kurkul. “We look forward to presenting a major Additive Manufacturing Conference in Louisville in September of 2018.”
